On November 18,1992 the film Malcolm X, directed by Spike Lee (@officialspikelee) was released in theaters. The critically acclaimed film was based ofln the book “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” by Malcolm X and Alex Haley. The nearly 3.5 hour film follows the life and transformation of petty criminal Malcolm Little into Muslim minister and Civil Rights leader Malcolm X. Grossing over $9.8 million in its opening weekend, it would go on to make over $48 million before the end of its run. Critics have ranked the film as the #1 movie of 1992 and among the top 10 of the best films of the 1990s. In 2010 “Malcolm X” was selected for preservation in the United States Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being ‘culturally, historically and aesthetically significant’.
